I’ve been perfectly content with living with our stark white walls for over 12 years. Never had an itch to change until a few months ago when I saw just how much stuff shows up on the walls when they’re white. I decided I wanted a light to medium gray green color and went online on Glidden’s site to see the paint colors they had. I had taken a pic of our living room and was surprised to see colors that looked good on the little swatch actually looked a lot different when “painted” on the virtual walls of our living room. I picked out 4 or 5 different colors I liked and kept coming back to this one called “Main Street USA.” It was exactly what I wanted. So we went into the local Home Depot and picked up three gallons and I saw it looked a little darker than I remembered on the card but didn’t think much of it.
I started painting the entryway and had a freakout because it looked MUCH darker than I remembered and I just talked myself down saying “no, no it’s because I went from white to color, I need to get used to it.” If I repeated it enough, it’d be true. The more I painted, the more I didn’t know if I liked and kept getting reassured by the man that if I didn’t like it “we could always repaint.” We have these baseboards/door trims and stairs that are this hideous fleshtone color but always looked fine…until there is a medium green against them. The green brings out this orangy tone in the baseboards that makes it look like well, I won’t repeat what I said it looks like. Suffice to say, it looks like shit and I utterly HATE IT. I had a small breakdown each day and told the man to go back and get the next shade down which more closely resembled what I’d picked out online. After he had a hissy of his own, he got a quart of it. I loved it. It still wasn’t the color I picked much lighter but compared to the baby poop green on the walls, it was beautiful. He kept grumbling about how he didn’t like it. Finally I just painted the swatch the old color and shut up because one of us was going to be unhappy so might as well be me. Bottom line: DO NOT EVER PICK YOUR COLOR ONLINE BECAUSE IT DOESN’T EXIST!! I knew the web used slightly different colors but this is just so completely different that they shouldn’t even be allowed to advertise it. So now I am a pimento living in the big olive that is now my home. I told the man the only thing that would make me warm up to it would be painting the baseboards a cream color so it will match the crown molding that we’re having put in. He’s wanting to hire someone to do it. OMG, are you serious??? Yes, let’s pay an additional $100-300 depending on what dirtball contractor decides to financially rape us for work we could have done in a weekend. Ugh. So I am now miserable due to my own stupidity. Great. Why don’t you just fill the living room with vodka and give me a shake.
I am still amazed by people’s overly radical political views. While I don’t care for the Republican point of view, it’s not like I’m not friends with them or feel some need to get in a big pissing match with them over our differing views. All politicians are crooked, they’re all in bed with lobbyists and they’re ALL going to raise your taxes…it has nothing to do with party affiliation. The way I look at it is you have your views, I have mine, big fat hairy deal. (I choose to vent my normally Dem views here because its my blog and if you don’t like it you’re more than welcome to start your own!) There’s this friend of mine who I’ve always looked up to and she happens to be one of the most radical right wingers ever. That’s fine. But tonight she really disappointed me. She sent me some “Joe the Plumber wisdom” email and I usually delete political emails but opened it for some reason. I told her about poor Joe’s woes and let’s not put him on some pedastal now and she comes back about why should anyone care if he pays his taxes or not. Um REALLY??? Well, some of us actually pay our taxes and maybe we think that everyone should be expected to be held to the same laws we abide by! This isn’t a political party thing, it’s a common sense thing yet she made it seem like only Democrats would dig up that this guy didn’t pay his taxes. Good Lord, people’s lack of common sense is staggering.
